CONFIDENTIALITY
Everything shared with the therapist during psychotherapy is bound ethically by
confidentiality, implying that no information that the client has shared will be disclosed
without prior consent.
Five exceptions to this include:
1. If there is a threat to the client’s life, their emergency contact will be
contacted.
2. If there is a threat to another’s life based on the clients’ proposedintentions.
3. As a therapist, I am overseen by a supervisor, where your case may be
discussed, while anonymity is maintained. (Read more under heading –
Therapist Supervision)
4. Session notes will be stored in a password protected device, where the
client’s information will be stored under different alias for recognition by the
therapist only.
5. Insurance companies and other third-party payers are given information that they
request regarding services to the clients. The type of information that may be
requested includes types of service, dates/times of service and diagnosis. These details
may be shared with the client’s permission.
6. In legal/ court cases, the therapist is bound by the law to provide information that
will affect the case.
ONLINE PSYCHOTHERAPY AND LIMITATIONS
The therapist will not be held responsible for the privacy policies as used by other party
software. Google Meet is the only online platform that will be used for all sessions.
Online therapy is not an emergency service. In such a case, the client will be asked to visit the
closest emergency service.
Recording of the session is not permitted by the client.
THERAPIST SUPERVISION
To maintain quality checks of therapist skills, the therapist is ethically bound to be in
supervision for as long as they are a therapist. A supervisor is someone who will address my
therapist skills and discuss cases to aid treatment planning. As a part of this, I may audio
record sessions which are then discussed in supervision. Anonymity is maintained.
